Mother of sweet sweet Jesus! I've heard that Suspiria is being remade and will be released in 2013. This is getting out of control! Suspiria (Dario Argento 1977) was 100% flawless and in no need of re-doing. After talking to one of my friends we fully believe the only thing that MIGHT prevent it from utter calamity is the fact that Argento is assisting the writing.
Let's keep it real though... I'll still see it in theatres...

I just heard they're remaking Steven King's It! What the deuce?!? I know that the made for tv movie was a little ridiculous at times but Tim Curry, YES SIR! It is why so many of us don't get down with clowns today. NOT a fan of this 2 movie remake!

G.I. Joe Retaliation Postponed...
Was the first G.I. Joe a quality film? Me thinks not... But I do have to admit, after watching the previews for the next installment G.I. Joe Retaliation, I was excited to see if the second one was any better. I am even going to make a bolder statement by saying I was going to catch it in theatres when it opened this year! Which is why hearing that it has been pushed back all the way until March 29th 2013 is so disappointing. Word on the street is that it was postponed due to filmmakers wanting to 3D it up and needing to re-shoot after an audience screening.
This leads me into the purpose of this post... Why the F Dirty is everyone wanting to do movies in 3D?!? I guess the more important question is why are people watching so many movies in 3D? Obviously the filmmakers are making them in order to rake in the money, I get that... But why are they so popular? I hear that 3D movies are all the rage over seas specifically in Asia. In my opinion most of the time the 3D is pointless and ineffective because the film wasn't shot in 3D, just converted later. If it doesn't look as good as Avatar, then you might as well not bother converting it. I've actually heard from several people that 3D movies give them headaches/motion sickness. Apparently it's real in these streets!
I really don't know why I'm bitching about filmmakers releasing movies in 3D just to make money... They wouldn't make them if the public didn't go out in droves to buy tickets at $14.00 a piece!
That is all ....

Prometheus
So! Prometheus was EASILY my must see movie of the year! Yeah Dark Night Rises is going to be amazing and Skyfall is going to be the jam but as far as I was concerned Prometheus was my most anticipated. I had purchased our advanced day reserved balcony seats for opening night just to make sure that we had perfect seats and then proceeded to clear my schedule. We were all set to grab pizza before the movie when disaster stuck! THE STOMACH VIRUS! Kyle had it and then ceremoniously passed it onto me… Eventually, after rest and plenty of fluids, we got to the movie theatre that weekend to see it aaaaaand guess what!?! HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT!
Ridley Scott had gone back and forth on whether or not Prometheus was going to be a prequel to Alien or not during interviews. When the opening credits came up Kyle and I both thought that the question was definitively answered in the affirmative. The presentation of the title and the opening information looked exactly like Alien. But alas, we were mistaken! Instead it was this “half assed, it’s sort of going to remind you of Alien and even have creatures that look mildly like the creatures in Alien, but not fully commit to being a prequel” hot mess. I fully believe that for me, the downfall of this movie was definitely the conception and implementation of the creatures. They could not have possibly done an adequate screen test for this film because if they had I am positive an audience would have told the filmmakers “Come On!?!” I am going to make a bold statement and say that I don’t think any of the creatures were successful. The “engineers” were interesting with their transparent white skin, but that’s as much praise as I’m willing to give the CG characters. Frankly I was left with thoughts like “It’s 2012 and this is where we are?!?”
Now I don’t want you to think I’m saying the entire movie was garbage… It did have its suspenseful and shocking moments. I’m not going to give too much away but after a certain medical procedure that occurs in the movie my mouth was wide open in shock because of what was shown. The girl sitting behind me in the theatre was saying “Oh my god Oh my god!” every five seconds as well. So that’s always a good sign! I also found Michael Fassbender’s performance extremely unnerving. It sort of channelled 2001 : A Space Odyssey where there is a computer/robot there to help and take care of you but all the while you have a sneaking suspicion it might just fuck you over in the end!
To wrap things up I want to reiterate the fact that I REALLY wanted to like Promethues! But apart from some of the actor’s performances and suspenseful moments it definitely didn’t deliver.
I’m giving it a rating of : Eh …
